JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A business owner robbed for the second time this year fought back during a weekend robbery and is now being called a 'hero'.
"You're not overjoyed that someone got hurt, but at the same token you're pleased that someone would step up and was able to take care of his own property," said Phil Robinson.
Robinson says he's lived on Shindler Drive for 11 years. He says he's been aware of previous robberies at the Holiday Grocery store across the street from his home, but this weekend was different.
"We couldn't even get into our home because the road was blocked off, the cops were right across the street here with us," said Robinson.
Police say Sunday night the store was being robbed when the store owner shot the suspect. The suspect fled on foot with a gunshot wound to the chest, but was located by officers about a block away from the store. David Carrero says he lives close by and goes to the Holiday Grocery store almost every day. He says he was shocked when he heard the news.
"I heard it on the news and that the owner defended himself. That's great, I mean I am happy for that, you know that's how it should be," said Carrero.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Holiday Grocery was also robbed in February of this year. After hearing the news about the string of robberies this weekend, several community members say they are proud of the business owner.
"He's a good man, so I'm proud of him," added Carrero.
