JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Donny Moore is Vice President and Football Director of the Sweetwater Athletic Assoication Pop Warner team on the westside of Jacksonville.
Moore started coaching pop warner football 24 years ago, in fact, he coached his oldest son who is 30 years old now.
Moore says his son's coach at the time was diagnosed with cancer and sidelined.
The team was faced with the possibilty that their season would come to an end without a head coach.
The parents came to Moore and asked him to coach the team.
Moore did and he's been coaching pop warner football ever since.
In 1999 Moore started the Sweetwater Pop Warner team on the westside of Jacksonville.
After showing and teaching the players and their parents that drugs were bad and there were other options, the area improved drastically.
Moore says about 70 percent of the 350 plus athletes in Sweetwater are in single parent homes but his coaches understand they're mentors.
Every two or three weeks Moore along with his coaches hold prayer at the park.
Since Sweetwater started its pop warner team in 1999, the boys have won three national titles and one cheerleading national championship.
Danny Moore calls his job as head coach a ministry, we're calling him our Hero Next Door.
