A Florida man is charged with murdering the woman whose body was found in the Ocmulgee River in Telfair County on Thursday.
The woman is now identified as Judy Larue Murrow, 64, of Tampa, Fla.
Telfair Sheriff Chris Steverson said Murrow had been shot in the head.
The sheriff announced the arrest of Joshua Lamar Helton, 25, of Plant City, Fla. He's being held in jail in Tampa.
Steverson said his investigators got a murder warrant for Helton and Florida authorities took him into custody on Friday.
The sheriff said investigators believe the suspect was a former neighbor of the victim and knew Murrow and her family "for some time."
Steverson said the woman did not appear to have previous ties to Telfair County.
Fishermen found Murrow's body Thursday morning, about 200 yards downstream from a boat landing near Jacksonville.
The sheriff said the Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office took part in the investigation, along with Telfair authorities and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
