Telfair County Sheriff's Office says they believe they've identified a woman found dead in the Ocmulgee River.
By news release, Sheriff Chris Steverson says they're waiting on DNA tests to confirm the woman's identity before notifying her next of kin.
But investigators are calling the case a homicide. They have not explained why.
In a news release, Steverson wrote that the woman was from outside Telfair. The GBI reported that they're working with the Ben Hill County Sheriff's office on the case.
So far, they're not releasing any further details on the death.
Fishermen found the woman's body Thursday morning, about 200 yards downstream from the boat landing near the town of Jacksonville.
Steverson described her as a middle-aged white woman with having short hair, wearing black capris and a khaki shirt.
Anyone with information on this case should call the Telfair County Sheriff's Office at 229-868-6621.
