JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A man swimming in the Battle of the Beach event at Jacksonville Beach drowned, possibly because of a heart attack.
A man had a heart attack in the water according to the Never Quit organizer Erik Petroni.
Witnesses say the man was in his 40's or 50's. His identity has not been released.
Jacksonville Beach Fire and Rescue said he could not verify if the man's death was a result of a medical condition.
Another competitor who was swimming in the same race said he noticed the man struggling in the water this afternoon.
Within minutes, there were lifeguards around the man, trying to help according to witnesses.
