ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- At least two plastic bottles filled with an explosive mix of household chemicals have been found in World Golf Village.
The first explosive bottle was detonated inside of a mailbox at a home in the King and the Bear neighborhood, according to a release from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. A deputy located a second bottle, which was building pressure, in the front yard of the same house.
A similar incident occurred in November when an explosive bottle detonated inside of a dumpster in the Murbella McDonald's parking lot and caused damage to a vehicle driving by, according to the release.
At this point, none of the explosive bottle have caused injuries, however if handled, the devices could cause personal injury or property damage to anyone coming in contact with one, the SJCSO release stated.
At this time, detectives are considering these incidents "experimental pranks" and not targeted at specific individuals.
The devices are typically in small, plastic bottles and contain household chemicals, which react and build pressure inside of the bottle.
If a suspect device is located, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is urging residents not to handle them and instead, officials are asking for residents to call 911.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 277-8477.
