YULEE, Fla. -- Rebecca Schadowsky fielded so many calls on Thursday without any sleep the night before, after learning her husband, Tom, was fatally shot on Dunn Avenue in what the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office describes as a case of possible road rage.

Schadowsky's truck and trailer ran off Dunn Avenue last night near Interstate 295 after he was shot. The Yulee man was on his way home after spending a long day in Jacksonville rehabbing a house.

"I never thought would be a widow at 41. I never thought he would go before me. I always knew would take care of me forever," said Rebecca Schadowsky from her home.

Forever for Rebecca ended Wednesday when police got the call of gunfire on Dunn Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. 

Sgt. Jay Farhat said investigators are working all leads, including that Schadowsky and another man may have exchanged words.  Customers at the Gate gas station on Dunn were being interviewed on what they heard or saw.

Schadowsky said she got worried last night when her husband did not answer his phone. She said he always kept her updated so she did not worry.

Wednesday night, after learning of the shooting on the late news and with reports saying a man in a pickup pulling a trailer had been killed, Schadowsky realized that was likely her husband.

"If you lose somebody that you love as much as I loved my husband, which was more than I can describe in words, then you would do everything in your power to find who took him from you," said Schadowsky.

JSO said it wants to talk the driver of a burnt orange Chevrolet Avalanche or Cadillac Escalade EXT with a FAMU license tag.
