CHARLTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A high school teacher has been charged with multiple counts of having sex with students.

Danita Wilson, a 32-year-old teacher at Charlton County High School, is accused of at least seven counts of alleged sexual assault on a child, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The charges allege at least seven different students are involved, according to Stacey Carson, GBI Assistant Special Agent In Charge.

Carson said the alleged activity has been going on for more than a year. The young people involved are not all Wilson's students, but they are or were students at the school at one time.

The Charlton County School Board received a tip from an unknown source that was passed on to the Charlton County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. At the request of the Charlton County Sheriff's Office, the GBI conducted an investigation, said Carson.

Wilson turned herself in Tuesday afternoon at the Charlton County Sheriff's Office.

In a release the school board said:

"Charlton County School Board is dedicated to the education, safety and well being of all students. Currently there is an ongoing investigation regarding inappropriate conduct by an employee of the school district. All further inquires are being referred to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation."

On Wednesday evening, Wilson was released from jail on a $35,000 bond.

Juliette Wilson, a lifelong resident of Folkston, said she's horrified at the news of the allegations against Wilson.

"This keeps happening," she said. "I don't know what these people are thinking that they keep doing this to children, that it's permissible. I don't understand it. Like I say, I'm horrified."

Monet Milton, another Folkston resident, says it's a sad situation.

"I think it is sad, I mean why would she do something like that?" Milton said. "It doesn't make any sense. She is out there supposed to be teaching and she is having an affair with students. That is sad."
