JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Cason family is celebrating Christmas a little differently this year to keep alive the spirit of a family member murdered earlier this year.

A toy giveaway is planned for this Sunday, December 23, at a city park near the family's Northside home.

Bernard Cason, 29, was fatally shot in his car in March. The murder has not been solved and the Northside man is survived by a three year-old son.

"I love you, Bernard," said Bernice Cason when asked about the family event to honor her son.

"We know this is what he (Bernard) wanted the family to do," said Thelmeica Cason.

"This is a way of kind of putting smiles on children's faces to remove the tears from our eyes," said the aunt who helped organize toy giveaway that will replace a family gift exchange.

The toy giveaway, along with games, will take place at Charles Reece Park on Ken Knight Drive starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
