JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that took place on Monday night at Cellular Plus of Jacksonville.
According to Sgt. Lonnie Mills with the JSO homicide unit, police were dispatched to the store around 7:30 p.m. to reports of a person shot.
Police found Sammy Zahra, 47, had been shot twice. He was transported to Shands Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition as of late Monday evening. Mills said Zahra was the only one in the store and seems to be the proprietor.
Mills said they are not yet certain if anything was taken from the store as it is still early in the investigation.
The suspect is reported to be a black male of medium build, six feet tall with long dreads, Mills said. He also has a dark complexion and was unshaven, wearing a white T-shirt and dark jeans.
Mills said the suspect was last seen walking out of the store's parking lot and was in the convenience store next door before the shooting. The suspect is at large in the community and is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Anyone with any information in the shooting is asked to call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
