LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A man was killed early Monday when a fuel tank he was checking exploded at the Anderson Columbia plant.
Perry Pollard, 30, was killed after a diesel fuel tank he was checking around 5:15 a.m. exploded, according to a release from Columbia County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Ed Seifert.
No other workers were injured in the incident, and there was no threat of contamination to the surrounding area, Seifert said.
The Columbia County Fire Department and the Lake City Fire Department both worked to contain the fuel, which was identified to be #5 diesel.
The CCSO, CCFD, and Anderson Columbia are working with the State Fire Marshal and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to determine the cause of the fire. Seifert said the investigation will take several weeks.
The Office of the Medical Examiner will examine Pollard to determine his cause of death.
