LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Officers with the Lake City Police Department shot and killed an armed man.
Police received a 911 call shortly before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning about a disturbance at an apartment complex located at 2720 SW Windsong Circle, according to a news release from Lake City Police Department Public Information Officer Steve Shaw.
Shaw said when Officers Brian Bruenger, Garrett Register and Sgt. Larry Shallar approached the door of an apartment in Building 5, 30-year-old Jeramey Sweeny came outside of the apartment with a handgun.
When Sweeny pointed his gun at officers, Bruenger drew his service weapon and shot Sweeny.
Sweeny was pronounced deceased at the scene, Shaw said.
Register has been with the LCPD for one-and-a-half years. Bruenger has been with the department for five years and Shallar has 11-and-a-half years of service.
The State Attorney's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) both responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Shaw said the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
