JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Duval County School Board has narrowed the list of candidates to be considered for the next superintendent to five.
The board and consultants went through 30 applicants who expressed interest in the position.

The candidates who made the cut include educators from Memphis, Miami, Atlanta and the list also includes a Duval County educator.
The finalists include: Kriner Cash, Memphis Public Schools; Kathryn LeRoy, Duval County Schools Chief Academic Officer; William Miller, Washtena School District, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Dale Robbins, Gwinnett Public Schools; Nikola Vitti, Miami-Dade Schools.
On August 27, the plan is to invite the finalists to Jacksonville to meet board members and the public.
Chairperson Betty Burney said the following day, the board will meet to make a decision on whether any of the finalists should be offered the job.
