JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man who shot a 19-year-old man while he sat in his car in broad daylight in 2009 has been sentenced to death by a judge.
Arthur "Shorty Fat" Martin, 42, was given the death sentence by Judge Linda McCallum on Friday afternoon in the killing of Javon Daniels, according to a release from the State Attorney's Office.
Martin was convicted of first degree murder in March and a jury recommended the death sentence in April. He killed Daniels six months after being released from prison for second degree murder.
Daniels was killed by Martin in the parking lot of an apartment complex and children playing nearby witnessed the crime. Martin's criminal history dates back to 1990 and includes charges of armed robbery and burglary in addition to murder.
