ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 21-year-old Jacksonville man after allegedly stabbing his father after an argument.
Police were called to to the 4200 block of Plantation Oaks Boulevard to reports of a fight shortly after 12 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from Clay County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Mary Justino.
When deputies got to the home where the fight was supposedly going on, they found 45-year-old David Akers with an apparent two-inch long knife wound to his stomach.
David told police he and his son Chad had been drinking beers earlier and had gotten into a verbal argument. That argument then escalated to a physical confrontation that ended with Chad Akers stabbing his father in the stomach, according to the report.
The elder Akers described the knife as being a switchblade type attached to a pair of brass knuckles.
David Akers was taken to Orange Park Medical Center in serious condition. Justino said he is expected to recover from his injuries.
Clay County deputies arrested Chad Akers at his home in Jacksonville.
Justino said the deputies were able to do so due to a partnership that allows law enforcement from Clay and Duval counties to enter each other's jurisdictions when seeking a serious violent offender called "Cops Without Borders."
When police searched Chad's bedroom, they found a brass knuckle type of knife and some bloody clothing.
Chad Akers was placed under arrest and taken to the Clay County Jail where he was booked on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
