PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Firefighters tackled a 450 acre wildfire in the Mondex area south of Palatka.
Ludie Bond with the Florida Forest Service said fire had burned 450 acres by 9:30 Saturday night and was 70 percent contained.
Smoke billowed into the sky from the fire.
Bond said no homes were threatened in the mostly wooded area.
A helicopter form the Ocala National Forest Service has been working the fire along with crews on the ground.
A helicopter will fly over the fire Sunday, according to Bond. GPS coordinates will be gathered to obtain a more accurate count of the acreage which has burned.
