ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- A deadly police involved shooting in Clay County is under investigation.
Colonel Craig Aldrich with the Clay County Sheriff Office, tells us an armed woman approached Deputy Chris Ruby -- a 9 year veteran -- outside the Orange Park Operations Center on Blanding Blvd.
It happened at 6:00 this morning as the Ruby was getting ready to go home after his shift.
Aldrich says 49-year-old Joanne Beardsley was armed and when the deputy asked her to drop her weapon, she refused. Ruby then fired multiple times, killing her. The deputy was not hurt.
Aldrich said Beardsley lived in Jacksonville.
FDLE is now investigating.
Deputies say this could be a possible "suicide-by-cop" scenario.
Deputy Ruby is now on leave, standard procedure after a shooting.
