PALATKA, Fla. -- Four people were taken to the hospital following a crash involving a supervisor with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. on SR-207 in East Palatka, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A car driving across SR-207 failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled in front of a vehicle driven by St. Johns County Sheriff's supervisor Christopher Acosta, according to the crash report from FHP. Acosta's unmarked police SUV struck the car on the front left side and sent it spinning out.

The driver of the car, 41 year old Michele Egeland, was seriously injured. Two children, ages 7 and 9, who were in the car were transported to the hospital but did not suffer any injuries.

Acosta, 51, was transported to Flagler Hospital St. Augustine in serious condition, according to FHP.

The roadway was blocked for an hour while FHP investigated.

Egeland was charged with failing to yield at a stop intersection and driving with a suspended license.
