JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The five finalists for our inaugural Athlete of the Year award attended a banquet at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Downtown Jacksonville on Thursday evening.

Ridgeview High School's Rachel Castelli was recently voted as the Athlete of the Year. The senior-to-be who is a cheerleader, volleyball player, and tennis player for the Panthers was presented a $1,000 scholarship from the law firm of Epstein & Robbins.

The other four finalists are Creekside's Nico Ditota, West Nassau's Katy McGrath, Oakleaf's Justin Todd, and Ed White's Edward Whitfield Jr. They were all presented with $250 scholarships from Epstein and Robbins.

While Castelli still has another year to decide on her college destination, Ditota will play football at Methodist University in North Carolina, McGrath plans to play soccer at the University of Florida, Todd will play football at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Whitfield will play football at Cheyney University in Pennsylvania.
