TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida State's Jimbo Fisher may be the pre-eminent quarterback coach in college football.
He has had eight quarterbacks drafted to the NFL since 2001, works with reigning Heisman winner Jamies Winston and two of his former Seminole disciples are expected to start for other major college programs this year.
The base of Fisher's teachings can be summed up in one word: Why.
Fisher, 48, wants his quarterbacks to not only master the offense but understand why the system works the way it does. Fisher's father used to pepper him with the question after games. That stuck and Fisher would ask his coaches the same thing.
STATS LLC says Fisher is the only coach in college football that has had three quarterbacks drafted in the first round since 2007.
