JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament is from July 21 - 26, 2014. To help kick off the big fishing week, tournament officials invited the local media out to sea for a competition of their own.
Our very own Courtney Jones braved the choppy waters to lure in a Kingfish.
After a few hours out at sea, the boats came in, a media champion was crowned, and lunch was served. The media anglers recharged with a low country boil. The meal consisted of shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, onions, peppers and carrots.
The 34th Annual Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament takes place July 21 - 26, 2014 at Jim King Park & Boat Ramp at Sister Creek.
The annual event is a long-standing tradition for residents of the Jacksonville area. Up to 500 boats fish the week-long event for hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes. Annually, the Tournament attracts approximately 20,000 spectators who watch the weigh-in and enjoy the festivities. Favorite attractions include the Food Festival; the Liars' Tent, featuring live entertainment; exhibitors and a boat display; plus the Boatique, offering a variety of unique merchandise. As in the past, the week-long festivities will be capped off with a fabulous fireworks display sponsored by the City of Jacksonville.
