An elderly man driving without his lights on led cops on a slow-speed pursuit down a South Carolina highway. VPC
KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. -- A disoriented, elderly man led deputies on a low speed chase on I-20 Thursday evening.
Deputies at Kershaw County Sheriff's Office spotted a reckless driver when his car left the interstate and into the emergency lane. The car nearly hit a KCSO deputy, who was able to get out of the way. That's when they realized the driver was elderly.
One of the deputies was able to follow behind the vehicle, but the elderly driver refused to stop. With blue lights and siren activated, the deputy continued in hot pursuit at speeds reaching 55 to 60 miles per hour for about 7 miles.
Deputies were finally able to box in the vehicle and stop the chase. KCSO identified the suspect as an extremely disoriented 92-year-old man.
KCSO got him out of the car without incident. He was not charged and was returned to the care of his family.
