BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Three people were killed in a Brunswick crash involving a semi truck Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the deadly crash happened on U.S. 17 in Brunswick.

A crash involving a tractor trailer and another vehicle occurred near the entrance of Colonel's Island port terminal, off Interstate 95 exit 29 around noon. Southbound lanes of U.S. 17 were closed, but one northbound lane was open for southbound traffic.

According to GSP Trooper First Class Ty Brooks, the crash occurred when a vehicle heading north on U.S. 17 attempted a left turn across the road. The semi, which was heading south, was not able to stop in time and struck the car on the passenger side. All three people in the car were killed.

GSP said the victims were three, 23-year-old men who worked together. Their identities will be released once next of kin is notified.

GSP said they have interviewed about four to five witnesses. No charges have been filed against the driver of the tractor trailer.
