JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Congressman Ander Crenshaw is leading the fight to cut the Internal Revenue Service's budget by a billion dollars.

Crenshaw's bill was approved by the House of Representatives this week and now goes to the Senate. If approved the agencies proposed budget would be at 2003 levels of funding.

"They gave $63 million dollars in bonuses when not answering the telephone in the first place. We found out bonuses went to employees who owed back taxes. That's outrageous," said the Republican lawmaker.

Crenshaw says also unacceptable are the emails the IRS cannot produce and the explanation that it experienced computer failures.

The First Coast Tea Party did not want to comment on the IRS handling of emails and tax exempt applications since it is involved in litigation with the IRS.
