Incumbent Republican Governor Nathan Deal defeated two primary challengers to become his party's nominee for the general election this fall. He faces Democratic challenger Jason Carter.

In the U.S. Senate race, businessman David Perdue will face Rep. Jack Kingston in the Republican run off July 22 . The winner will face Michelle Nunn in the November general election. Kingston and Perdue led a slate of seven candidates Tuesday running to replace retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

In the race to fill the southeast Georgia congressional seat given up by GOP Rep. Jack Kingston, State Rep. Buddy Carter of Pooler is now in a Republican run off July 22 with Savannah physician Robert Johnson. They were the top two finishers in a six-way Republican primary for the 1st District which covers Southeast Georgia from the coast to the Florida line. Democrats will also have a runoff for the Republican leaning seat between Any Tavio of Richmond Hill and Brian Reece of Savannah.

Incumbent state house member Jason Spencer won the GOP Primary for his House district 180 seat. There is no Democratic challenger
