The bill would make it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to buy or possess the devices
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - State lawmakers are scheduled to talk about a bill Tuesday to ban electronic cigarettes from minors.
The bill would make it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to buy or possess the devices. It would also be illegal to sell electronic cigarettes to minors.
Those pushing for the bill say electronic cigarettes are an alternative to regular cigarettes and should be illegal because regular cigarettes are already illegal for minors.
Under the bill, punishments for minors who violate the law would be subject to having their driver's license suspended.
E-cigarette makers bill the devices as a safer alternative to regular cigarettes because it emits nicotine through vapor as opposed to smoke like regular cigarettes.
If the bill is voted into law, it would go into effect July 2014.
