JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The tally is in and it's proof once again people around Jacksonville support our veterans and have a heart for rescue dogs.

Customers, in loose change, donated $37,150.50 at area Firehouse Subs for Operation Orion, K9s for Warriors, according to Robin Peters, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Executive Director.

The Firehouse campaign asked people to "round up" at the cash register or drop in loose coins or bills into a box when they pay for their meals during July.

Firehouse owners have already donated $25,000 and the Firehouse foundation has also donated $25,000.

That makes the total from the Firehouse effort more than $87,000.

The Weaver Foundation will double that amount.

Operation Orion is working to rally the community to help K9s for Warriors, a non-profit based in Ponte Vedra. The group custom trains mostly rescue dogs to give to veterans with PTSD.

You can still donate to Operation Orion. The Weavers will match donations up to $500,000.
