MAYPORT, Fla. -- After a five-month deployment, USS Halyburton, FFG 40, returned Wednesday morning with more than 200 sailors and a helicopter squadron, HSL-46 Detachment, on board.

USS Halyburton is scheduled to be decommissioned September 14. The ceremony will be held on Mayport Naval Station.

USS Halyburton is the 34th ship of the Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided missile frigates.

USS Halyburton is named for the late Pharmacist's Mate Second Class William David Halyburton, Jr. who was awarded the Medal of Honor while embedded with a US Marine Corps Battalion fighting on the island of Okinawa during World War II.
