WASHINGTON -- Two people have been shot across the entrance to the National Zoo, police confirm at a press briefing.
The two people who were shot were injured in the arm and hand, police said. Both have non-life threatening injuries.
There was heavy police presence at the National Zoo after unconfirmed reports of shots fired earlier in the day, WUSA9's Bruce Johnson reports. Police said around 5:17 p.m., a man was shot in the 3000 block of Connecticut Avenue, N.W.
WUSA9's Bruce Johnson heard shots being fired as thousands came to celebrate 'African American Day & Easter Monday.'
Officials are looking for two black men, one of them is wearing a black shirt and another is wearing a purple shirt. Police say they do not know the motive of the shootings.
The National Zoo is currently closed due to the shooting.
