CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- It is Wednesday, so that means it's time for our 'Teacher of the week'!

This week we are honoring Holt Laird at Middleburg High School. He teaches anatomy, physiology and AP biology. He has been teaching for 35 years and will be retiring after this year.

One of his nominators said very few teachers are as inspirational as Laird and he teaches not just science, but also about living a healthy life and holding yourself to a high standard.

Laird said it is important for a teacher to care about each of his or her students.

"As busy as the day is, you have got to make time to try and find a place to talk to each one during the week. It is difficult to do, you get spread out during the week, but you have to really care about them," said Laird.

According to Laird, it is magnificent to see what students become, especially those who pursue the sciences after graduation. He is not sure what he is going to do in his retirement yet, but is thinking about doing some mission work.

A big congratulations to Mr. Holt Laird at Middleburg High School for being our Teacher of the Week.
