ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Students in St. John's County are being offered free flu vaccine.
The free flu vaccines are being offered through a program called Healthy Schools, created by former Jacksonville Jaguar football player Tony Boselli. The program is in partnership with the Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County and the ST. Johns County School district.
"The flu vaccine remains the most important and effective means of preventing the flu, and it's not too late to be vaccinated. This program is a shining example of integrated state, county and community partners working together to protect, promote and improve the health of our children," said Dr. Dawn Allicock, Director and Health Officer for the Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County.
The vaccines will be provided during the week of January 27, 2014. If a child has insurance, their insurance company is billed for the vaccine. No out-of-pocket expenses or deductibles are billed to the parents, and uninsured students will receive the vaccine at no cost.
