JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eleven military wives were honored Thursday at the inaugural Heroes at Home Jacksonville Spouse Appreciation and Awards Luncheon.
Military spouses generally only receives a kiss and a "thank you" from their significant other, but the event held at the Officers' Club at Naval Air Station Jacksonville gave some official recognition to the unsung heroes who maintain the home front during lengthy deployments.
The woman were recognized for selflessly give back to their communities though volunteer work, and provide moral support not only for their loved ones serving both at home and in harm's way but also for other military families. While doing so much for the military community, many hold down full-time jobs and raise families.
The event provided an opportunity to say "thank you" and to recognize military spouses for their contributions to their community and for the difference they make every day.
