A University of Central Florida foreign exchange student was struck and killed by a car early Sunday morning.

Geoffrey Pimpernelle, 22, was crossing University Boulevard near the Technological Avenue intersection around 2 a.m. when a driver, Catherine Eads, struck Pimpernelle, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP reported that 22-year-old Eads, also a UCF student, tested negative for alcohol. Pimpernelle was improperly crossing University Boulevard when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

Pimpernelle was a foreign exchange student from France and lived on campus.

This marks the second UCF student pedestrian fatality less than a mile from campus. Sophomore Brooke Dawkins passed away March 5, after being struck by a driver while crossing Alafaya Trail at Gemini Boulevard.

"The entire UCF family sends its prayers and sympathies to the student's family and friends," said UCF spokesman Grant Heston. "We are committed to working with community partners to keep students safe off campus. We can't address off-campus safety alone, and we will continue our many ongoing safety efforts."
