LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Lake City Police arrested the man they were looking for in connection with a woman's brutal murder.
Sunday afternoon, Carlis Lindsey III, 31 was arrested and now faces a murder charge. Other charges pending.
Lake City Police say Lindsey is the suspect in the murder of Chaquasha Shawntey Aviger, 36. Police say Lindsey stabbed his ex-girlfriend and left her lying in the middle of a road near NW Jackson Avenue and NW Morgan Street Friday morning.
According to police, Sunday afternoon around 4:45 p.m., officers surrounded and cleared the residence at 378 NE Double Run Road, and officers found the home next to it had been recently broken in to.
Police say officers saw a screen had been removed, the front door was kicked in and the blinds were moving. Officers surrounded the second home and moments later, "after commands to surrender," Lindsey "gave himself up without incident."
Police say due to a "minor stabbing earlier in the day, officers were able to determine the location of Carlis Lindsey." Police did not elaborate.
According to the LCPD, Lindsey passed out after being arrested. Later, prescription bottles and pills were found "scattered on the floor" of the burglarized home where officers found Lindsey. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
LCPD said Aviger had stab wounds to her chest, abdomen and throat as well as numerous cuts and lacerations to her sides and her neck.
Aviger was taken to Shands Lake Shore Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after 1:00 a.m. Friday.
Investigators had responded to multiple domestic incidents involving Aviger and Lindsey, officers told First Coast News, with the latest incident occurring in May 2013.
Aviger has several children, including a three-week old baby, according to police.
