ARCHER, Fla. -- The Alachua County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday 64-year-old Joseph McGuire called 911 and reported that a person had been shot at a home in the 15900 Block of SW 133rd Lane, according to a release from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

McGuire told dispatchers someone had come to the door of his home and kicked in the door to gain entry, according to the ACSO.

Deputies arrived a few minutes later to find 26-year-old Latreese Monroe with a gunshot wound to the torso area. First aid was provided to the woman before she was transported to an area hospital.

Monroe later died from her injuries at UF Health in Gainesville.

Monroe had an extensive jail history in Alachua County.

McGuire is cooperating with investigators and no charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
