DELTONA, Fla. —Volusia County Sheriff's Office investigators said they have now identified 12 victims who said they were raped by a Deltona firefighter and detectives said there may be a 13th victim.

Investigators filed another charge against 32-year-old Terry Freeman Tuesday.

He has now been charged in seven of the 12 cases.

After the first victim accused Freeman of rape in late December, other victims came forward with similar allegations. They told deputies about dates or meetings with Freeman where they said they were then overpowered.

Investigators said Freeman became violent with the victims and raped them when they went back to his home after a date or visited him at his home for another reason.

Freeman has been assaulting women for more than 10 years, and his predatory behavior escalated since 2011, when he became a firefighter, according to officials.

Attorney Steven Delaroche was retained by Freeman's family on the first case but expects to handle them all.

"It's understandable that the public would be shocked at the sheer number," he said.

Delaroche said Freeman is concerned and confused but insists the women wanted to have a sexual encounter. Delaroche believes the victims, for whatever reason, later changed their minds.

"I think it began as consensual sex, and then in some of the cases, because they had to answer to someone when they got home, they said they were raped," he said.

The attorney said Freeman will willingly go to trial to prove his innocence in each case. Investigators said Freeman is anything but innocent.
