JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- With the extreme heat bearing down on the First Coast, JEA says the demand for energy is the highest it's been in seven years.
Brian Pippin is with JEA. He says they've been preparing for the increased demand every since there was word of near record-setting heat on the way.
"When we see the heat coming, we make sure our generation is prepared for that extra demand," Pippin said.
The preparation includes flipping switches for more power, and continuing to make sure all the equipment is working.
"We've got capacity enough to meet the demand, even the higher demand when it's as hot as it is," he said.
According to JEA, the record amount of demand was back in August of 2007. The demand from this round of heat ranks second.
