BOSTWICK, Fla. -- A routine traffic stop led to a series of drug charges for 49-year-old Johnny Whitaker Tilton in Putnam County on Saturday.

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy James Heath said he first noticed the expired license plate on the blue Ford Courier traveling on State Road 17. He then discovered Tilton had a suspended driver's license and a driving history including six previous suspensions and three prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Further investigation revealed an active warrant for Tilton out of Clay County for manufacturing methamphetamine. Tilton was arrested on those charges.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered an active clandestine methamphetamine lab in the trunk. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office Meth Lab Team responded to the scene to safely neutralize the one pot lab.

Tilton was transported to the Putnam County Jail and booked on the charges of possession of drugs, production of drugs and a moving traffic violation for driving on a suspended license.

Tilton is currently being held on a bond of $10,512.00
