CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- An Orange Park man was killed after losing control of his car and slamming into a tree near Oakleaf High School Saturday morning, authorities said.
A car driven by Dawit Baraki was heading south in the inside lane of Oakleaf Plantation Parkway when it started veering into the curb after 9 a.m., according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. That's when, troopers said, Baraki overcompensated and caused the car to spin out and swerve back across the lanes and onto the shoulder.
The vehicle slid for some distance before colliding with a tree, the accident report said.
Baraki, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
