GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A jury has found Pedro Bravo guilty of murdering a University of Florida student in 2012.
The jury rendered its verdict Friday evening after a two-week trial in which prosecutors argued that a jealous Bravo strangled 18-year-old Christian Aguilar because the victim was dating a woman with whom Bravo was obsessed.
Aguilar went missing in September 2012 after he and Bravo spent hours together discussing Bravo's depression over his breakup with Erika Friman.
For weeks, people searched for Aguilar, until his remains were discovered buried in a shallow grave in a north Florida forest by two hunters.
Investigators found Aguilar's blood in Bravo's car and presented evidence that Bravo researched ways to drug people and dispose of bodies.
Bravo pleaded not guilty, arguing that he and Aguilar got into a fist fight and that he left Aguilar alive.
