ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- Salty Paws, a new "healthy pet supermarket," is offering help to Operation Orion.

The Atlantic Beach store is offering free dog washes for a ten dollar donation to Operation Orion - FCN's project to help K9s for Warriors give service dogs to veterans with PTSD.

The dog wash typically costs $15 at Salty Paws, so customers save $5 and help a great cause. The offer goes through the month of August.

Salty Paws is at 677 Atlantic Blvd in Atlantic Beach. The store has a large "bathing" area for dogs with a leash system and a place for the dogs to stand when they're getting wet. The dog wash even includes a blow-dry, if the dog owner is so inclined.

Salty Paws is teaming up with Jax Federal Credit Union to raise funds for Operation Orion. Organizer Hallie Day says the goal is $10,000.

That's a good goal because that amount sponsors a warrior/K9 team from the time a rescue dog begins training at the K9s for Warrior facility in Ponte Vedra through the day a veteran completes the custom training and graduates from the program.

There is no charge for the veteran who stays at the Ponte Vedra facility for three weeks with room/board and custom training with their service dogs included.

Jax Federal Credit Union has paper dog bones for sale for $10. All the money goes to Operation Orion.

Anyone is welcome to stop by a Jax Federal Credit Union branch and purchase a paper bone. Many customers are writing the names of their dogs on the bones which go onto the walls for display.

Remember, too, the Weaver Foundation is doubling all donations to Operation Orion up to $500,000.

The non-profit K9s for Warriors is trying to quadruple its program because the waiting list is now more than a year for veterans with PTSD to get in, and that's risky because many are suicidal. The veterans, however, say in many cases the dogs' work in their lives saves them from suicide.
