GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A Louisiana woman who sued the Clay County Sheriff's Office for wrongful arrest settled her claim out of court and received a $67,000 settlement.
Ashley Nicole Chiasson was jailed twice in Clay County once on grand theft charges and again for writing bad checks earlier this year. But, as it turns out, the wrong Ashley Chiasson was arrested. The right person, Ashley Odessa Chiasson, was arrested days after the wrongful arrest allegations surfaced this spring.

The Florida Sheriff's Risk Management Fund, which insures Clay County, paid the settlement.
Four deputies involved in Chiasson's arrest were disciplined and the department changed policies to help prevent it from happening again.
Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler declined comment.
Andrew Bonderud who represented the Louisiana mother did comment saying, "The settlement proceeds have helped her [Chiasson] get her feet back on the ground, obtain housing, and otherwise put this episode behind her."
Another wrongful arrest claim in Clay County is still in federal court. Cody Lee Williams spent 35 days in jail last year on a sex charge. He was released when investigators discovered they had the wrong Cody Lee Williams.
