JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One man was grazed in the chest by a bullet while trying to protect himself early Tuesday morning.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 1300 block of McConihe Street for a report of a shooting.
Responding officers found an adult male with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his chest. Rescue crews responded and treated him on the scene.
Officers say the victim did not need to be taken to the hospital because it was only a graze wound.
So far, the investigation has revealed the man was riding his bike in the 1700 block of Barnett St. when he reported two unknown men approached him and demanded he get off his bike.
According to the police, the victim attempted to fight back against one of the men when the second one fired several shots at him.
The victim then ran away for safety and later retrieved his bike. The suspects, described as 18-23 years old, also ran away.
One was last seen wearing a light colored shirt.
First Coast News asked JSO if the shooting was the result of a robbery that got out of hand and was informed the violent crimes task force was investigating.
The victim declined to speak on camera.
