JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office unveiled a new traffic app Thursday along with a website that shows JSO's calls for service.
Sheriff John Rutherford made the announcement Thursday and said JSO is working with Audible Media Group. App users will get an audible update of traffic conditions around Jacksonville.
The app also works with GPS to give alternate routes.
It will be active Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., but the company plans to extend it in the future.
"This enhances the ways reporters and citizens can get factual information directly from the sheriff's office in a very timely manner," said Sheriff Rutherford.
Sheriff Rutherford says JSO is also launching a 'Calls for Service' website to show the calls that come into JSO dispatch. The webpage displays active dispatched calls for service made to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office with a built in 30 minute delay. Active calls will be displayed in red and completed calls will show up in gray and the webpage will update automatically.
JSO does offer a disclaimer on the website: "This information is not intended to be used as official crime data. This program does not provide information about all crimes, and excludes specific incidents such as sexual assaults and child abuse."
The app is available in the iTunes store and the Google play store.
