JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An off-duty JSO officer chased down a robbery suspect in Springfield Wednesday night.

It happened at the intersection of 8th Street and Lomax Street at the Paradise Food Mart in the Springfield neighborhood just before 9 p.m., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The suspect entered the store, put his hand under his shirt, and allegedly demanded cash. An off-duty officer, still in uniform, spotted the crime and chased the suspect on foot.

The officer caught up with the suspect at 9th and Hubbard Streets, used his TASER on the man and took him into custody.

JSO dogs were searching the area for a weapon and money the suspect may have stashed.
