FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. -- Deputies are looking into an apparent drowning after the body of 22-year-old Abel Villalobos of Orange Park was found in a flooded ditch in Fleming Island early Saturday morning, authorities said.

The death appears to be an accidental drowning. Nonetheless, a homicide investigator is working the case as called for by departmental policy, according to a spokesperson for the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Villalobos left a friend's home on a golf cart about 2 a.m., said Mary Justino, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office. At some point, the cart got stuck in a flooded ditch in the 2100 block of Lakeshore Drive North.

Justino said Villalobos was able to call friends for help. He was found near the golf cart about 4 a.m., she said.
