The accident happened around 12:15 a.m. on SR 16 near Inman Road, according to FHP's website.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A local man has died following an accident in St. Johns County early Monday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Anthony Driver was hit and killed by a 2013 Dodge Avenger as he tried to cross SR 16 near Inman Road just after midnight.

The vehicle was being driven by 26-year-old Arsenio Brown, according to FHP.

After the accident, authorities said Brown drove to a nearby Dunkin Donuts where he and his two passengers alerted employees to call 911. Witnesses said Brown and his passengers appeared to be hearing impaired.

Authorities said an interpreter was called to the scene to help with the investigation.

Charges are pending against the driver, which is typical in this type of crash, according to FHP.

The victim was not walking in a crosswalk when he was hit, investigators said.
