JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville mother was sentenced to 13 years after she allegedly caused her 3-year-old son to overdose in 2011.

Angel Gust, 33, was sentenced Thursday afternoon to 13 years in prison followed by five years of probation on one count of aggravated manslaughter of a child.

Gust was the primary caretaker of the victim due to the child's father being deployed overseas with the Navy.

According to the investigation, the child had been prescribed a small dosage of Clonidine to help treat Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Rather than providing the child with the proper dosage, Gust gave the victim an excessive amount of medication, ultimately casing the death of her son.
