YULEE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Captain was arrested in Yulee early Wednesday morning for possession of methamphetamine.

According to a Nassau County Sheriff's Office arrest report, 0.4 grams of crystal meth and a glass pipe were found inside the truck of Joseph E. Acosta.

Acosta was stopped on Highway 17 and Crady Lake Drive for having an unsecured load just before 5 a.m. on Wednesday. The officer noticed beer cans in the back seat of Acosta's truck and asked if there was an open container in the vehicle. Acosta said yes and consented to a search and the NCSO deputy found the meth and pipe in a backpack on the floorboard, according to the report.

Acosta, who is a Fire Captain at Rescue Station 56, was arrested for possession of crystal methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and a citation for having an unsecured load.

NCSO said it can't release the mugshot because a firefighter's mugshot is exempt per Florida Statute 119.071(4)(d)2.b.

JFRD spokesperson Tom Francis said Acosta "has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of applicable investigative protocols."
