ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A 33-year-old woman was clipped by a train Monday afternoon while taking pictures near the tracks.

According to Lt. Betts with the St. Augustine Fire Department, the incident occurred on Whitney Street in West St. Augustine. Sonnie Lee Smith sustained multiple lacerations while standing on the tracks taking photos of the train around 2 p.m., according to a release from the St. John's County Sheriff's Office.

Smith was airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville in unknown condition. According to Betts, Smith was alert and talking when she was transported. According to the SJSO, Smith told deputies that she was taking pictures of the train as it traveled southbound but was unable to remember anything after as a result of being struck by the train.

The train involved is operated by Florida East Cast Railway and was traveling southbound when the incident occurred.
